The past days changed my entire life... literally! I still can't believe that I moved to Hong Kong, to be more precise to the Li Po Chun United World College (LPCUWC) of Hong Kong. When dreaming of something, we tend to tell ourselves that it is impossible anyway. But things aren't always out of reach - you just need to try. I remember being extremely scared of trying to reach my dream of going to LPC. I remember debating with myself about applying at UWC or not. I told myself that it wouldn't work out anyway, but I gave it a try. But why am I telling you guys this when I'm already at LPC?
I'm telling you because I know that there are a lot of people out there who have the same thoughts as I had. And now that I am in this wonderful place with all these amazing people I can say that going through the application process is so worth it. I didn't have lessons yet, but to me, UWC is about the people who attend the school with you. Otherwise, you could simply visit a normal IB school.
I was a little bit afraid of going to a boarding school (I mean, have you guys ever watched one of these teenager movies where new students at boarding schools have to pass some weird and frightening tests which their mates invent?), but it has been a great experience so far. I really like being in a dorm and having three wonderful roomies. Being in a room with three strangers was one of my biggest fears, but my first hours at LPC made me realize that I didn't have to be afraid of it. Although I'm not used to sharing a room with others it is a good experience and I like it. Don't get me wrong, life at LPC isn't perfect. The rooms aren't like your rooms at home. Although I expected my corner to be much smaller, it's still a big step to move from a big room to a small corner in a dorm room.
My lessons haven't started yet. In the moment we're in Orientation Week. This is a week in which we get to know the school, we learn how things work at the school and we make our final subject selection. I had sent my subject selection to LPC in summer, but I had to change some subjects because they are being teached at the same time. These news weren't so great, but I hope that my new subject selection will work out.
During Orientation Week, we also went to Camp for one night. The campsite was super basic but that was absolutely fine. We had a good time and got to know each other a lot better. The highlight of the trip was something called "Playback Theatre". I had never heard of it before coming to LPC. If you guys don't know it either, you can just check out Wikipedia's definition of it here. Everyone opened up during the playback session and we all got very emotional. This was good because it made us be closer and it gave us a strong feeling of unity.
Going to Hong Kong is probably one of the most scary things I've ever done, but I'm looking forward to the experience. I enjoy being here on the one hand, but on the other I also miss home, my friend and my beloved rabbit. This is a part of the challenge and I'm pretty sure that going through these emotions will help me grow - but it's not always easy. But it's still worth it.
I wish you guys the best! Lots of Love,
