A Letter of Gratitude
Hey loves!
The past week has been extremely emotional as the time to say goodbye to my second years has come. Although we all knew that the end was approaching, we were not really prepared for the feelings that were coming for us. On the one hand, I am very happy and proud because my second years have graduated and will go to so many amazing places in the world, but on the other hand I do not want to let them go yet.
Our second years have been the most amazing people we could have wished for and they gave us so much. Whether it was teaching overseas students how to do different things in Hong Kong, teaching us how to cook our cup noodles or simply having deep conversations in the am with us. They will be deeply missed.
I could not be prouder to call this bunch of people my second years and I hope that they all know how much each and everyone of them means to us. The beautiful thing about UWC is that it brings together people from such different places who - without UWC - would probably never have met each other. But the terribly sad thing about this is that after two years, they all pack their bags and leave off to different places again. Not all will return home - many go somewhere else to study. And maybe we will see some again. But the atmosphere of being together at Li Po Chun UWC has ended. We will never all sit in the canteen again and discuss world politics or the ethics of various things. These conversations, whether serious or funny, will be kept in our hearts and will be remembered.
And while our second years have to say their goodbyes to LPC UWC, we first years now have to figure out how to be as amazing second years as our second years used to be. When we will return from summer break, we will be welcoming our first years and it will be on us to give them the same guidance and advice that our second years provided us with. I am truly looking forward to it, but at the same time, our second years are leaving high standards for us to meet.
This year has been truly transforming and I cannot possibly describe all the little things that made this year so amazing, but I can say with certainty that it would not have been as transforming as it was if my second years had not been a part of it. And with this, I wish the graduating class of 2017 all the best, wherever they may go and thank them one last time!
