Books to zone out

Hello eyeryone!

As you know I'm currently staying on Fuerteventura where I have a lot of time to simply hang around and do nothing. To do at least something when the sun isn't shining, I took a few books with me. Today was one of those days when the sun doesn't want to come out. I took a few pictures to show you guys what it looked like. But now let's get to the books.

I've packed in four books that I read super quickly because they were amazing! So here we go with them:

1. Dark Places (Gillian Flynn)

This amazing crime novel makes you wanna freak out! When I've started reading the book I didn't think there was much to say about the crime, because a court had already decided who was guilty. But the author makes it clear why other people are suspicious too and that somebody needs to check the crime again. The story is about Libby Day who survived an attack in which her whole family except her and her brother were killed. The family was found in a house covered with devil-worshipping signs. Her brother was put behind bars for the criem because the only seven-year old Libby was kind of sure that it was him. But now, years later, she starts to question her testimony and starts to discover what was really going on there.

In my opinion, this crime novel is super exciting and you can't put it down. I've read it in two days, because I just couldn't stop reading it. It's also really cool that the author writes from different perspectives (Libby, her brother, their mom, ...), but also from different times. The author writes about Libby in the present time, but you also get an insight in the family's life shortly before the attack.

2. Look who's back (Timur Vernes)

What would you do if you met Adolf Hitler? What would you do if he sat in front of you in the present-time? This book shows us in a funny way how the people might react to him being back. The book itself is pretty funny, but I definitely recommend reading the German version. I've read the English one and it is full of German words that couldn't be translated. To be honest, I wasn't that convinced of the story when I bought the book, because I think that Adolf Hitler hasn't done anything positive and so I didn't think I could laugh about him. In the end, it was funny but it was also showing me how far we've gotten when it comes to integration and so on. The book is not only funny, but especially to the end it also got touching, because Hitler finds out that one of the people closest to him now is Jewish. He gets confronted with something he caused and reacts being sorry. But I'm still not exactly sure what to think of that book, because I wasn't always sure if it's okay to laugh about a person that caused that much pain.

3. Marly's ghost (David Levithan)

I've read this book in one day, because I couldn't put it down. It is a story about a boy who lost his girlfriend due to cancer. Now he can't go on with his life because he's missing her. Because of that, three different ghosts are meeting up with him in one night to free him from his pain. It's a remix of Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" and a Valentine's twist.

This book was really touching to me and I absolutely loved reading it. The book made me think about myself as well, because sometimes, we push others away or we hurt them - but we don't realize it. It made me realize how important it is to value the happiness in your life and to celebrate it with those who cause it. It's definitely well written and perfect for everyone who's into love stories.

4. The perks of being a wallflower

Okay, I have to admit that this wasn't the first time that I've read this book. I've read it hundreds of times. But it still makes me cry whenever I read it. This is literally the first and until now the only book that made me cry. For everyone who doesn't know the story, it's about a boy in highschool that tries to fit in and to make friends and to simply live. But he's a little bit weird and he doesn't know why. On his journey through high school he experiences friendship, love, hate, and he discovers himself. But finding out why he is how he is is really shocking.

I think that I love this book so much because I've read it at the right time. When I read this book, there was a girl in my class who was a little bit weird too. The book inspired me to ignore her weirdness and to be nice anyway - because there are reasons why people are like that. And no matter whether they know them or not, they are how they are and we should simply accept everyone.
