Vorfreude
Vorfreude (n.) - The joyful, intense anticipation that comes from imagining future pleasures
Hey loves!
This week has been packed with tests, deadlines, and meetings. But there was something very exciting in the making this week as well and I cannot wait for it to happen! This year, I am leading the Model United Nations (MUN) team of my school and my co-leader and I decided to organise an in-house conference for our team. An in-house conference is an informal conference that can be competitive but does not have to be. We decided to keep it more fun and educational because it is pretty early in the school year and some of our members will be experiencing their first MUN conference this weekend.
Organising such a conference is a lot of work because there are a lot of things to think of and every detail is important. But it is also a lot of fun because you get to see what happens behind the scenes during conferences and you develop an understanding for the stress of the organisers of bigger MUN conferences.
What I love most about organising the conference is that I get to give the opportunity to experience MUN to students who never had it before. I love my MUN team this year because they are incredibly enthusiastic and they have put a lot of effort into MUN so far. I know that MUN can be pretty intimidating and confusing at first because there is a lot of terminology that you do not use on a day-to-day basis but once you've learn that terminology, it is a lot of fun! And you get to dress up for every conference which makes it even more fun because this gives you a feeling of professionalism. The conference will take place this Sunday and I hope to share some of my experiences from it with you guys in my next article.
But that's not the only thing happening at LPC in the moment... We are preparing our 25th Anniversary Celebration! The whole school is being cleaned and hundreds of invitations were sent out to make the celebration memorable. The celebration will take place on the 25th of November on campus and we are all excited to see it but also quite anxious whether we will be able to organise all the performances until then! Each cultural group (mine is Europe) will have a little booth where they share something from their culture and there will be several performances illustrating the story of Kurt Hahn, the founder of UWC, and the story of LPC.
My cultural group is also currently working on organising a cultural evening. Our cultural evening will take place in early December and we are putting a lot of effort into the event so let's hope it will be a good one! I am sorry that I cannot share more details on this event with you guys, but we have all been sworn to secrecy to make the event as exciting as possible and to not spoil all the details in advance.
And a huge thank you to all the people who wished me luck for my university interview which took place last Friday! I do not really know whether it went well or not, but I guess I will find out in December! One of the lovely people who thought of me is my mom who celebrated her birthday this Tuesday! I am so grateful to have her in my life and I do not know what I would do without all her support! I sent her a little gift through the mail and I also created a collage from our travel to Hong Kong for her.
I also attached a few pictures of the sweater I was wearing today for you guys because I think it is one of the sweetest fashion items I have ever owned! My friend Hayne gave it to me on our last day at Stanford University this summer. It is a sweater from a math team which one of her friends participates in and I love this nerdy item because it has a heart and the equation for that heart on the back. I also love wearing the shirt because it is a reminder of the amazing time I had at Stanford this summer and of all the friends I made there.
Lots of Love,
Elena
