It has been a few weeks since I moved to Cambridge. A few days ago, I was sitting in my dorm room and I decided that I wanted to change some things in the room. Do you guys know these moments when you feel super motivated to change the look of your room?
I grabbed my computer and went through Amazon until I found some things that I liked. I then put together a plan of how to decorate my room and measured the space available in my shelfs to ensure the things I ordered would fit. I stayed up late until I found everything I wanted and ordered it. I then waited a week for everything to arrive and then started to set up my dorm. I am very happy that I did this because it helped me feel more at home and it is also quite satisfying to see some of your ideas for decoration become reality.
We have almost reached half of the term and I cannot believe that it went by so quickly. It feels like I have only been here for a few days, but it has been almost four weeks already. My course is very busy and the huge workload makes time fly by. But we still have some time for ourselves and meeting up with friends. But it is clear that this is a massive increase in work compared to high school.
It has been quite stressful for me for the past days because I went to Essex last weekend to get trained for Amnesty International's Digital Verification Corps. It is a group of students who analyse footage of human rights violations. I met some wonderful people there and I am looking forward to starting to work on this project! But losing one weekend also means losing a huge chunk of time and having to catch it up somehow. I am also already planning another weekend getaway: I will travel to Munich next weekend for a selection day for a Model United Nations fellowship. I am excited to go back to Germany for a few days and to see Munich!
One of the things I found very helpful in keeping myself calm with all this work is keeping up my morning and evening routine. Getting up at a consistent time and knowing what you do at set times of the day helps you build a routine and relax during these times. I read between 15 and 30 minutes in the morning and at least half an hour in the evening. I find this a good way to take your mind off schoolwork without just wasting time.
