Thank You.
Hey loves!
I left my rabbit Mümmeline (short: Mümi) with the vet on Tuesday because she needed to have surgery. Mümi had a tumour on her cheek and it got bigger and bigger over the past few months. We were initially advised against the surgery since Mümi is already 10 years old and anaesthesia is pretty tough for small rabbits. But since the tumour had grown so massively, our vet later advised us that the surgery was in Mümi's best interest.
Saying yes to a rather dangerous surgery for your pet is never easy and it was definitely one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I remember tearing up when the vet told me that the surgery had now become necessary. And leaving her with the vet on Tuesday evening was nerve-wracking. I did not sleep Wednesday night and I was incredibly afraid that anything had gone wrong.
Luckily, the surgery had gone well and she was ready to go home. She was still asleep due to the anaesthesia (it is normal that rabbits take a few hours to wake up from it) and seeing your pet so still is terrifying. I probably checked for her breathing every ten seconds, but I was simply very worried. She was asleep for hours and I kept her cuddled into towels and blankets to keep her warm.
When she finally woke up, she took a while to get active again but she stopped eating. It is not uncommon for rabbits to refuse to eat after a surgery, but it is dangerous for them since they need to eat rather often due to the way their body processes food. So we ended up having to force-feed her (and trust me, feeding your rabbit with a syringe is terrifying and scary because while their teeth may be little, they can hurt). Although you know that you are doing the right thing in force-feeding your rabbit, it feels like you are torturing your animal because they will almost certainly not enjoy it.
You cannot imagine how overjoyed I was when I woke up on Friday to find my rabbit nibbling on a salad. I had been truly worried about whether she would be okay but she is now on a really good path. I am so glad that her recovery has gone well so far and I am grateful for every day she is getting better. We love her so much and we are happy that the surgery went well. We are hoping for a speedy recovery and I also wanted to use this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who wished her well after I shared the news of her surgery on social media.
And because my rabbit is the cutest being I have ever seen, here are some more adorable pictures of her:
Mümi, thank you so much for making all our days brighter - we love you!
Lots of Love,
Elena
